Ram Singh, the main accused in the Nirbhaya gangrape case on December 16, 2012 was found dead in his prison cell on Sunday at Tihar Jail, New Delhi. He may be no Bhagat Singh by he chose to allegedly  commit suicide even though he was being given a fair trial by the prosecution in Delhi's High Court. He may have done the unthinkable thinking that being a condemned man, with public baying for his blood and a very strong case of culpable homicide, the outcome would have been the same in 5 or 10 years time. But in what has again proved to be a major embarrassment for the Central govt., a highly volatile inmate, endangered by fellow under trials and locked up in a cell with 3 other inmates was able to commit suicide in Delhi's maximum security prison despite being surrounded round-the-clock by guards. His death has once again attracted negative publicity for the incumbent government in the international media and brought about question marks on the  effectiveness of the government in running the largest democracy at a time when a strong anti-corruption movement has just been pacified and last 2 years bringing to light some biggest corruption scandals in decades.
